easy read。 Love the personal connection you get from the book with the journal aspect

As an intro to astrology from a socially concerned/political perspective it is great! It’s very step by step and is a great start for someone who is interested in it but gets lost on all the online garbage。 On the other side, knowing Chani from the online format, I did wish there was more about radical self-acceptance than mere quick references to it。

A fantastic primer on your big three signs with wonderful examples from Maya Angelou’s and Frida Kahlo’s charts。 My only nitpick would be that it lacks a list of further reading for those who want to educate themselves more about the rest of their chart。 But that’s a minor gripe, and easily rectified by a quick google search 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely recommend。 If you have ever been interested in astrology this book is simply mind blowing and allows you to understand your purpose a little clearer and your weaknesses as well。 It was like she knew things about my life。 I used this book on other peoples charts with the same success。 Very interesting read and easy and quick to follow。

I discovered Chani's blog in 2015 when I first started learning how to read a chart because I was struggling with my own identity and thought the stars might hold some clues for me。 Her horoscopes were so different from a lot of popular astrologers that I encountered because they were so poetic and beautiful; almost like love letters written through the lens of politics, acknowledgement of the systems marginalized people struggle under, and her lived experience as a queer woman。 I was hooked。 I I discovered Chani's blog in 2015 when I first started learning how to read a chart because I was struggling with my own identity and thought the stars might hold some clues for me。 Her horoscopes were so different from a lot of popular astrologers that I encountered because they were so poetic and beautiful; almost like love letters written through the lens of politics, acknowledgement of the systems marginalized people struggle under, and her lived experience as a queer woman。 I was hooked。 I am so glad she is getting recognition, writing books, and now making apps。 I recommend this to anyone brand new to astrology who is looking for a little more insight into how to read their natal chart。 。。。more

I quite enjoyed this guide and quick introduction to the Sun, Moon, and Ascendand and its ruler。 Would recommend it for people who are new to astrology and look for a starting point!

Super basic。 A great resource for the foundations of astrology but really doesn’t go much deeper than mainstream sun sign astrology。

Good introductory book to astrology。 I enjoyed the depth of Information provided and the back story to go along。 I do wish there were slightly more in depth guidance for more interpretation and how to navigate the info provided, but I assume that it was intentional as this is an introductory style book Loved the connection with the website and having my reading to carry with me through the read

I've been fascinated by astrology since I was a kid and I could read the daily postings by Jeanne Dixon in the Trenton Times。 This book was a down-to earth (!) explanation of much that has never been clear to me before。 I found it to be useful ion the way it guided me toward using astrology for insights rather than predictive purposes。 If this is a subject you're at all curious about, this would be a good book for you。 I've been fascinated by astrology since I was a kid and I could read the daily postings by Jeanne Dixon in the Trenton Times。 This book was a down-to earth (!) explanation of much that has never been clear to me before。 I found it to be useful ion the way it guided me toward using astrology for insights rather than predictive purposes。 If this is a subject you're at all curious about, this would be a good book for you。 。。。more

As an avid astrology dabbler since middle-school, this book would have helped young KCF feel a path forward with more confidence。 Chani's premise is if we can understand some key themes from our natal chart it can help us work with astrology to be our most radically accepting selves, ushering in ease and purpose as some guardrails for this thing called life。 It's the astrology book that helped me better understand aspects。 I wish she had a part two exploring the rest of the planet placements and As an avid astrology dabbler since middle-school, this book would have helped young KCF feel a path forward with more confidence。 Chani's premise is if we can understand some key themes from our natal chart it can help us work with astrology to be our most radically accepting selves, ushering in ease and purpose as some guardrails for this thing called life。 It's the astrology book that helped me better understand aspects。 I wish she had a part two exploring the rest of the planet placements and what that could mean for us, and yes I'm an iOS user and I've got the app which has also been a gift。 Chani is a teacher who breaks down these concepts for anyone willing to learn。 I felt very seen as I read each section that explores your sun sign, your moon sign, and your rising sign。 Get this book if you want a deeper dive into your own chart and into astrology as a radical feminist self-awareness tool。 。。。more

Chani is gifted in expressing insightful and actionable astrological information。I purchased this book after reading her online horoscopes and other astrological writings for a few months。 I was impressed by the beauty of her writing while it preserved the substance of the astrology she speaks of。This book is a great beginner’s guide to interpreting the cornerstones of a birth chart - the sun, the moon, and the rising sign (and its ruling planet)。I naturally lean towards traditional western astr Chani is gifted in expressing insightful and actionable astrological information。I purchased this book after reading her online horoscopes and other astrological writings for a few months。 I was impressed by the beauty of her writing while it preserved the substance of the astrology she speaks of。This book is a great beginner’s guide to interpreting the cornerstones of a birth chart - the sun, the moon, and the rising sign (and its ruling planet)。I naturally lean towards traditional western astrology (as depicted in this book), though those who are not familiar with this form of astrology will nevertheless appreciate the wealth of knowledge delivered in this book and its expert communication of the wonder and depth of birth chart interpretation。 。。。more

This "Astrology for Radical Self-Acceptance" is basic astrology in cookbook form。There are things I very much like--Nicholas' suggestion to create an altar to your chart and the three pledges she asks you to make are wise and wonderful, when it comes to understanding astrology。She then focuses on the primal triad, although I don't think she refers to it as such, that Steven Forrest emphasizes in his classic The Inner Sky。 The primal triad is your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant。 She goes through what e This "Astrology for Radical Self-Acceptance" is basic astrology in cookbook form。There are things I very much like--Nicholas' suggestion to create an altar to your chart and the three pledges she asks you to make are wise and wonderful, when it comes to understanding astrology。She then focuses on the primal triad, although I don't think she refers to it as such, that Steven Forrest emphasizes in his classic The Inner Sky。 The primal triad is your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant。 She goes through what each is like by sign, house and aspect。 The author's primary goal is to help you understand your chart, and she has you go through it like a workbook, much like her teacher Demetra George created years ago, with her classic Astrology for Yourself。 But unlike that book, Nicholas doesn't really address anything but the primal triad。What Nicholas does do is provide affirmations and asks self-reflective questions for each sign/house placement and aspects。 She occasionally adds a progressive slant to her excellent but somewhat standard descriptions。I am not really her targeted audience--I am a professional astrologer who teaches astrology。 I was looking for a new book that I thought might encompass more information, because for me, real empowerment is learning astrology for yourself and others。 Books like Steven Forrest's The Inner Sky and Demetra George's Tarot for Yourself do that magnificently。 It's unfair to expect a book to be a classic, and it's excellent for what it is--but I was looking for what it isn't。 I originally rated this three stars, but I upgraded, because it really is excellent for what it is--an accessible, modern cookbook for the primal triad。 It offers enough to give a person much more information than, let's say, Linda Goodman's Sun Signs, but less than Debbi Compton-Smith's Secrets From a Star-Gazer's Notebook。 It's a mainstream book for someone who wants to know more about their chart, but it's not for anyone who wants to learn astrology in depth。 。。。more

The basic bitch beginner’s guide to astrology charts。 And now I want to do all my friends charts- bc that’s the Pisces moon in this stubborn, but loyal Taurus, who’s steadily emoting my Virgo rising precision and creativity。

Not too complicated look at understanding your own astrological chart。 The book and the web generated accompanying chart provided me just enough information to be of interest without expecting me to be hard-core into astrology。

This is a good basic book for people just diving into astrology。 I'm not familiar with Chani Nicholas' other work and this is my first book on astrology (although I've read a lot online), but again this is almost exclusively geared for newbies。 However, I did think the journal prompts and affirmations were a nice addition to learning about your sun, moon, and rising signs。 This is a good basic book for people just diving into astrology。 I'm not familiar with Chani Nicholas' other work and this is my first book on astrology (although I've read a lot online), but again this is almost exclusively geared for newbies。 However, I did think the journal prompts and affirmations were a nice addition to learning about your sun, moon, and rising signs。 。。。more

This book made me so happy!! I learned so much, & I spent the whole entire day pouring over my computer, reviewing my birth chart, and taking notes。 This book was one of the most fun experiences I have had in a long time, and I have a feeling that Chani Nicholas has just sparked a new hobby for me。 :))

This is an engaging introduction to astrology。 It walks one through the major factors of sun sign, moon sign, and ascendant, and the relationship of these to other planets in one's chart ( which you can easily look up on her website。) I found insights here that spoke to me and I'll continue to ponder and explore! I don’t know much about astrology, but this was a great book to start with! Learning about all the details was overwhelming, but I loved the affirmations and descriptions。 I’ll have to keep this handy and go back with the reflection questions, but Nicholas gave a beautiful handbook for others to notice their power。

I think this is a valuable guide and starting point for anyone just starting to dip their toes into astrology and exploring their birth chart。 For individuals who are already well-versed in astrology, it may retread familiar territory/not be worth your time。 I love Chani’s focus on using it as a tool for self-discovery and self-acceptance as well as deconstructing roots that are intertwined with systems of oppression。

I absolutely love Chani Nicholas and her digital content, ESPECIALLY the way she writes horoscopes and engages on social media so I was excited for this book。 Nicholas has a great way of articulating the intangible, and it came through in this book。 It was also my first time diving more deeply into astrology through my own chart so I appreciated how easy it was to navigate the text。 That being said, I agree that the "meat" of the book for any one person/their chart comes out to less than 100 (ma I absolutely love Chani Nicholas and her digital content, ESPECIALLY the way she writes horoscopes and engages on social media so I was excited for this book。 Nicholas has a great way of articulating the intangible, and it came through in this book。 It was also my first time diving more deeply into astrology through my own chart so I appreciated how easy it was to navigate the text。 That being said, I agree that the "meat" of the book for any one person/their chart comes out to less than 100 (maybe <=80?) pages。 While it makes total sense that she'd need to discuss multiple astrological combinations, I did find myself wanting more insight and direction about next steps that didn't have to be specific to my chart。 Overall, I enjoyed this book and benefited from really engaging with the affirmations and reflection questions。 I'm encouraged to do more reading from other astrologers, and I even found out about some similarities between my own chart and Frida Kahlo's。 。。。more

I like to challenge myself to look at other ways of belief from time to time, and this was a great thought exercise through the lens of astrology。 Nicholas's writing is generous in spirit and thought-provoking without aggression, which is a welcome experience。 Highly recommended。 I like to challenge myself to look at other ways of belief from time to time, and this was a great thought exercise through the lens of astrology。 Nicholas's writing is generous in spirit and thought-provoking without aggression, which is a welcome experience。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

This is a primer, not a study, and its beautifully done。 Left me wanting to see an astrologer to unlock all the other treasures in my chart and those of loved ones。 Covers the big three, sun, moon, ascendant and the compassion and empathy of the author makes it shine。

Love Chani。 This book was a solid read, and though it is more like a workbook than anything else -- allowing you to skip ahead to the parts that are relevant to your specific placements, and thus making for quite a short read all told -- I still found it illuminating。 Yes, there are some planetary aspects that are not covered in this book, and that Chani mentions at the end are actually important。 Yes, she glosses over some deeper things, and I would thus say this book is more of an intro/primer Love Chani。 This book was a solid read, and though it is more like a workbook than anything else -- allowing you to skip ahead to the parts that are relevant to your specific placements, and thus making for quite a short read all told -- I still found it illuminating。 Yes, there are some planetary aspects that are not covered in this book, and that Chani mentions at the end are actually important。 Yes, she glosses over some deeper things, and I would thus say this book is more of an intro/primer to basic astrology than anything more profound。 But I would still recommend。 Chani's approach to astrology -- her specific words, perspective and wisdom -- are what makes her so beloved。 。。。more

Very easy to follow, and incredibly informative。 This book is best used as a resource material instead of something you read cover to cover。 The portions that did pertain to my chart were frighteningly accurate, and went deeper than I anticipated。 I'm grateful I read this。 Very easy to follow, and incredibly informative。 This book is best used as a resource material instead of something you read cover to cover。 The portions that did pertain to my chart were frighteningly accurate, and went deeper than I anticipated。 I'm grateful I read this。 。。。more

Ok, I gave in! It does live up to the hype - if you're looking for an accessible, not too fluffy but not too bogged down by details, primer on astrology。 For those with more than passing familiarity with reading birth charts, there is obviously a lot left out, but I suspect that is what books two, three, four。。 will cover。 Ok, I gave in!
